6 Months After María: ¡Al Congreso!
March 20 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
In September 2017, Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, compounding the humanitarian crisis already underway due Puerto Rico’s fast-moving economic crisis and decades of limited democratic powers.
March 20th will be the 6 month anniversary of Hurricane Maria’s landfall, but the disastrous response by the US Federal Government has been more devastating and damaging than the Hurricane itself. Hundreds of Puerto Rican families displaced by the Hurricane, joined by allies and activists, are coming to Washington to remind Congress and the White House that the crisis is not over:
#6monthsafterMaria and 300,000 have been displaced from the island
#6monthsafterMaría and 500,000 people still have no electricity
#6monthsafterMaría and thousands have no potable water
#6monthsafterMaría and thousands have no roof over their head
#6monthsafterMaría and Congress has allocated only a fraction of the 90 billion dollars needed for Puerto Rico to recover and thrive, while continuing to put fiscal control of the island in the hands of the bankers and hedge funds that created and continue to benefit from Puerto Rico’s debt crisis.
Join us and hundreds of other activists who stand in solidarity with Puerto Rico and demand Congress finally do their job and provide a just recovery & voice in deciding the future of Puerto Rico!
