Connecticut Energy Resiliency at the Town Level
led by

When the grid goes down – how will our community respond ?
This is the question that Melissa Everett and co- presenters will address in this seminar.
In Connecticut over the long term we’ve seen numerous short-term weather-related power outages. Recently we have seen outages that extend into the 2-week time frame (Sandy and the Snowmaggedon).
Ted Koppel’s well-researched and sobering book, Lights Out, argues that with power grid components sometimes coming from a distance, we should be prepared for longer-term outages – those rare “black swan” events that may happen once in a lifetime. The devastation in Puerto Rico brings this home.
Dr.Melissa Everett has facilitated the design of an assessment and planning process for addressing local energy security, emergency preparedness & renewable power deployment in an integrated fashion. The program is called EASE – Education and Action for Secure Energy. It is central content to this winter’s Clean Energy Accelerator Project serving 11 towns, which she is facilitating in her role as Clean Water Fund’s CT Energy & Sustainability Program Manager
Following the speakers’ presentations, we invite others with knowledge and experience relating to such issues to offer their succinct statements and comments.
Come & find out what needs to be done to enable our towns to be prepared for emergencies.
