Social Media and Public Service Focus of Rell Center Panel Discussion

The Gov. M. Jodi Rell Center for Public Service at the University of Hartford presents a panel discussion, Here and Now: Social Media and Public Service, Tuesday, April 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Harry Jack Gray Center’s 1877 Club on the University of Hartford campus Panelists are Connecticut Democratic Party Executive Director Jacqueline Kozin, Connecticut Republican Party Digital Director Patrice Thibodeau, and University of Hartford Applied Assistant Professor of Communication Adam Chiara.
University of Hartford Associate Professor of Political Science Bilal Sekou will moderate a discussion about Connecticut’s November election and the long-term impact of social media on political parties and public service. The panel will discuss the explosion of social media and other communication channels that enable candidates to bypass political parties and traditional media, while also effectively targeting affiliated voters who have increasingly become more “tribal.” They will also address communicating with younger audiences who are increasingly becoming unaffiliated with a political party.
