Yale, divest from hate! Support Puerto Rico!
January 25 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
The endowment of Yale University has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in one of the biggest predatory vulture funds of Puerto Rican debt, Baupost among others.
Activists wrote letters to the leading universities with endowments invested in Puerto Rican debt and demanded that the hedge funds cancel the debt or the universities divest. Baupost refused to cancel the debt in a letter to investors. Yale responded over the fall, requested more information, declined to meet with activist and then stated that their investment fit within the “the guidelines of Yale’s ethical investment policy”. In other words, Yale is fine with investing on a person that is destroying the lives of working people of Puerto Rico and will allow this person to make money from our suffering.
For this reason, on January 25th we are coming together in front of the office of the President of Yale to ask the University to tell Baupost to cancel any debt it may hold with Puerto Rico and if this does not happen divest from Baupost and show the thousands of Puerto Rican community members in New Haven, that Yale will not invest in the suffering of anybody.
